His dog — my mad rescue Max — is jumping up as if to warn him.
I am The Fool. I think most people, if they are honest, have spent periods of their lives wandering aimlessly with no real thought to their eventual destination. The colours in the card represent the myriad stimuli that distract The Fool at every turn. He is spiritually aware but follows aspects of all systems rather than organised religion. His knapsack is filled with accumulated things deemed important — unfinished books and papers. He is definitely on a different frequency to the majority, dancing to his own tune, unable to quite exist in the real world. He is a dreamer and a visionary, an inspired lunatic.
Whenever I step through the door of my tarot imagination and encounter The Fool it is always the same — dazzled by the sun, moving erratically, distracted by everything. Max jumps repeatedly trying to warn of the dangerous precipice only inches away.
Except once it was different. Taking his hands away from his eyes The Fool locked my gaze, leaned toward me and whispered: "You have been given a pause, a second chance. I forever stand on the cliff edge deciding whether to take a leap of faith — now it is you who cannot afford to not grasp this unprecedented opportunity. All bets are off. Don't come out of this enforced reinvention unchanged. Then it would be you who really is The Fool."
