Sagittarius carries the myth of Chiron, the wise centaur who tutored Achilles, Jason, and half the heroes of Greece, until he was accidentally struck by one of Hercules's poisoned arrows: immortal, and now in permanent pain, with no way to die and no way to heal. Chiron eventually traded his own immortality to free Prometheus from an endless punishment of his own, and was placed among the stars for the gift. It's an odd myth for the sign of optimism and big belief: even Greece's wisest archer carried a wound he couldn't shoot his way out of. That is what arrives on the 9th of December, at fifty-one minutes past midnight UTC: a New Moon at seventeen degrees of Sagittarius, Sun and Moon in exact conjunction, two weeks before Christmas. Sagittarius wants the big picture, the philosophy, the belief that makes sense of everything. This New Moon asks what you actually believe, once the tinsel and the noise of the season starts up around it.
