In the small hours of the 15th of June, at fifty-four minutes past three in the morning here in London, the Moon meets the Sun at twenty-four degrees of Gemini. A new moon. The two of them on the same degree, the Moon turning its dark face to us while the Sun lights the other side.
This is the closest the Moon comes to the Earth all year. And you will not see a thing.
A super new moon, nearer to us than at any other point in 2026, and invisible, because a new moon shows us nothing. The most powerful moon of the year is the one nobody will watch. There is a lesson in that before we even open the chart.
Two weeks ago the Sagittarius full moon was the smallest of the year, out near apogee, the farthest and faintest. This new moon is the exact reverse. It sits near perigee, about two hundred and twenty-two thousand miles away, the closest of 2026. The nearest moon of the whole year, pulling hard on the tides, and the sky gives you nothing to look at.
A new moon is where you plant something in the dark. This one plants it closer to home than any other will.
Gemini is the twins. Two minds, two paths, two roads. It is the sign of the messenger, of words and curiosity and choices, of holding more than one thing to be true at once. A new moon here does not hand you an answer. It hands you a question. Which way.
At twenty-four degrees we are late in the sign, near the end of Gemini season, with the Sun about to move into Cancer. So this is the last new moon of the season of the mind. The seed you plant is a seed of thought, of direction, of the road you mean to take.
Gemini is ruled by Mercury, so on a Gemini new moon Mercury is the planet to watch. And Mercury has just left home. On the day of the moon it sits at eighteen degrees of Cancer, and it reaches its greatest distance from the Sun in the evening sky on the very same day, the messenger at its most visible, easiest to spot low in the west after sunset.
Then, on the 29th, Mercury turns retrograde. So this is a say-it-now moon. If there is a truth you have been keeping quiet, the window to choose your words and mean them is open now, while they are still moving forward, before Mercury doubles back over its own steps.
Directly across the chart, at twenty degrees of Sagittarius, sits Black Moon Lilith, opposite the new moon. Lilith is the part that will not be tidied away, the unspoken thing, the voice you have hushed to keep the peace. On a moon of words, that swallowed sentence wants out. You do not have to say it to everyone. You do have to stop pretending you have not been carrying it.
Venus has just stepped into Leo, warm and bold-hearted, and she is in a close, easy angle to Uranus. That is the flavour of a small surprise in matters of love and worth, a spark you did not plan for, an idea about what you want that arrives sideways. Keep a little room in the week for the unexpected. Gemini likes to be surprised.
One quiet detail carries more weight than its quietness suggests. Chiron sits on the final degree of Aries at this new moon, and on the 19th of June, four days later, it crosses into Taurus for the first time since the late 1970s, close to fifty years. This is only a first visit. Chiron slips back into Aries in September and does not settle into Taurus for good until the spring of 2027. But this moon stands right on the threshold. The Sagittarius full moon a fortnight ago was the last full moon of the long Chiron-in-Aries chapter that began in 2018, and this is the doorway out of it. Venus and Jupiter both hold a hard angle to Chiron now, so an old and tender question about worth and value is likely to surface as it crosses. A wound you have carried for years is being shown the way out.
Gemini corresponds to The Lovers in the tarot. Everyone thinks it is the romance card, and it can be. But it is really the card of the crossroads, the moment you stand between two roads and have to choose one. Not with half of yourself. With all of it. The Lovers is the union of opposites, the choice made whole. That is the work this moon is asking of you.
The seventy-two hours around a new moon are for planting, not announcing. In the dark, with nothing to look at, choose.
Write one intention. One sentence. One road, not two. Then say it out loud, the Gemini way, and let the words make it real.

Two weeks on, the cycle turns again. On the 30th of June, in the early hours here in the UK, a full moon arrives at eight degrees of Capricorn, the Strawberry Moon, and the second and last micromoon of 2026. What you plant in the dark now is what that full moon will show you in the light. So plant it with care.
