The Six of Cups Tarot Card – Interpretation :

This card sparks feelings of nostalgia, of memories from long ago, from childhood perhaps. The danger here is that you are looking back through rose tinted glasses & remembering an idealised version of events. With regards to looking forward the image on my Six of Cups warns about building castles in the air, though day dreaming can visualise your dreams in to your current reality, you must ensure that you have solid foundations on which to build your future. Connections with the past are likely to reappear when the Six arrives, someone from your past may be trying to contact you without success. Past efforts are set to pay off, release yourself from nostalgia & be prepared to change behaviours. If something has not worked before be careful to not make the same mistakes. Likewise just because something has worked previously, it may not be relevant now, you may have to carefully analyse what was successful & update it for your current needs.

My Relationship with The Six of Cups

I have learnt the hard way that there is never any point in regret or looking back, what has gone before cannot be changed, life is a series of lessons & the Six is the card that tells you now is time to build on previous experience. A secondary association with the Six is that a childish outlook may be beneficial in your current scenario. If you had to view your life through the eyes of a child & appreciate the good things in life without having the concerns that age brings, you would feel a great weight lifted from your shoulders. When the Six appears I try & simplify my outlook. It is very hard sometimes to appreciate how far in life we have come, and the things that are truly important. A child will find joy in an empty box, when the Six appears we must reconnect to this innocence, we must release our imagination and generate a simplistic outlook that allows us to remember that everything in our life is truly o.k.. The flip side of this card warns me not to dwell on past mistakes, losses or events that are beyond my control. If a tendency to dwell on the past arises I know that it is merely hiding an unwillingness to move forward, to cling to that which is familiar. The Six teaches us to learn from the very essence of our experiences, to record the emotions and memories, thank the Universe for allowing us such enjoyment And then move on ever forward. As is the central message of the Tarot our very thoughts are the building blocks of our future. Until we can change our thinking to look forward to a more desirable outcome, we are destined to relive our experiences until those lessons have been absorbed.
